When memories haunt uS
Mysterious connections are made
This is a story about a man named Adam who is simultaneously grieving the loss of his father while expecting his first child with his wife Kari.
The journey of grief is consuming Adam, he is terrified of being a father without his own to turn to for guidance.
When Adam finds a curious item on the beach and discovers the mystery surrounding its origins, he takes his first steps forward to become the father
he is meant to be and starts to bring some healing to his life.
The story for “KANASHIMI” came to me by fusing together two very different ideas. The first was my own personal journey of grief after the loss of my father a little over two years ago. The second was a random memory of hearing stories of personal items found on the beach after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011. And now we have a global pandemic in Covid-19 that has led to so much unnecessary loss around the world. Grief is so universal that it seemed like such a natural emotion to explore. However the journey of grief takes interesting and unexpected turns, so in writing this story and making this film, I have learned to heal the deep wounds of loss and find reconciliation in my own life.
